I have bought ASUS gl553vd three days back
Initially the battery was completely drained so we plugged in the charger and it started in 10miniutes.
During start up, I was setting up my email in outlook while typing, the screen turned black with only the mouse cursor moving.
I thought it could be some update happening and left it run for 30mins
And then when i kept moving the mouse i could see a text cursor also somewhere.
So i understood that the display had actually turned black while the startup display was still there behind.
So i kept pressing tab and enter and at one click it went to next step.
I was very shocked that a new laptop could make a black display suddenly.
Im an architecture student and my rendering in skp vray, the rendering took a long time than usual and stopped rendering at 30%.
Theres seriosuly an issue with the laptop.
The sales people didn't accept the problem and rejected for the exchange
Please explain me what it could be and what i should be doing or should I really fight for an exhange.
Is the laptop really a fault?

You can't say at this point if the Laptop is faulty (hardware) just because of that incident.
The software you were running might have been resource intensive, causing the PC to lag seriously. Its also possible it was due to a software issue.
I would suggest powering off then rebooting to test lighter applications like movies,, music etc
BTW, its weird that a new PC came with a drained battery, unless its refurbished / used. What's the RAM and processor?
