Hello,

I tried to port TWRP to my new A4 ( which is Android 8.1 on MTK6739) using MTK Auto TWRP recovery porter 1.2,
but the recovery won't boot, the device just freezes on bootscreen then reboots after a few seconds.
(Tested with recovery.img from Stock ROM and with backed up recovery from my phone, same result on both)

I noticed that after patching the porter tool says something like "DM_Verity found, You'll need to patch boot.img"
If this is the source of the problem, What do I need to do?

Thanks in advance!

I thought as much.
There are two possible things that might have been wrong:
1. 8.1 could either be 8.1 or 8.1 Go Edition. For Go Edition users, they forget to select 8.1g and select 8.1 instead. If yours isn't Go Edition then ignore this
2. DM Verity presence. If there's DM Verity then your device will reject the TWRP untill boot.img is patched.
Upload the boot.img so we can patch it . You first need to flash the patched boot.img then boot up. If the phone boots up fine, you can then proceed to flash the TWRP

There's definitely DM_verity.
Here's what you can try. Patch boot.img using Magisk @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-21427.html . That will take care of both DM_verity and giving you root.
Flash the patched_boot.img after renaming to boot.img thn you can flash the TWRP

Thanks for the advice!
After patching boot.img with Magisk and flashing it to the phone, it boots up fine and root is working as expected.
However, TWRP still refuses to start :-(

Is there something else I could try?

Select 8.1g in the tool instead of 8.1

We're looking at a manual port then.
Provide stock recovery.img, boot.img and Kernel version
