(08-07-2015, 12:28 AM)dan in case the emmc isnt fried, then the only option left is partitions overlap i guess - any way we can possibly fix it?

thanks for the detailed reply.
the eMMC could be faulty yet get detected. like a corrupted flash drive on a Windows PC.
run an eMMC test on the working phone and lets compare the results

it kept reading the emmc on and on so I had to stop it in the middle,
then with the working phone test runs just fine but with my phone it says "failed!!" from the beginning, then this means a fried emmc or still could be partitions overlap?

btw not sure if it helps but here's a link to the first ROM I tried to flash to my phone (the one which bricked the phone)
http://www.needrom.com/download/lenovo-p780-2/
the 1st one

also here's a few pictures from the settings page on the working phone (they're both exact same except that the product label on the working phone says manufacture date August 2014 and mine May 2014, even homescreen exact same as mine)

the eMMC could be faulty yet get detected. like a corrupted flash drive on a Windows PC.
run an eMMC test on the working phone and lets compare the results

one little urgent problem - right after I stopped the emmc test in the middle, closed spft, disconnected phone (it was still turned off before, during and after the test) i then turned the phone back on and then shockingly the phone wont boot - it is stuck on the lenovo logo and won't start the OS, won't turn off, etc (i had to press the red reset button to turn phone off)
If I bricked my cousin's phone too I'm in little trouble, how do I fix what I just did??

nothing to worry about. boot into factory mode (volume down + power) and clear eMMC

I can boot into the recovery mode or factory mode

in recovery mode I have these options:
reboot system now
apply update from adb
apply update from sdcard
apply update from sdcard2
apply update from cache
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

in factory mode i have many options in chinese and one option which says "eMMC" im sure its for removing emmc partitions/cache

which option is safer to try first? factory reset or wipe cache partition? and from recovery mode or factory mode?
I worry if I do the wipe partition option or clear emmc from factory mode it will brick the phone or cause partition problem like it did on my device , is there anything to worry about if i do the wipe partition option? or factory reset is safer?

both eMMC and Factory reset are relatively safe.
select the option with eMMC in its name in factory mode
if you go for factory reset, your cousin will lose data

Ok I just selected the eMMC - it then showed the animated android bot character under surgery, it went on for exactly 120 seconds until the phone rebooted itself back to the freezed logo (without going back to the recovery mode screen) The phone now behaves exactly like my did before it got bricked Sad
I now also tried the factory reset and it breeds the exact same thing, surgery for 120 sec then reboot back to the freezed logo
I wonder what is the safest option to try next if the factory reset / emmc didnt work? (by the way I still have the rom backup from when it was still working, but I backed up the rom after I rooted the device)

no flashing yet.
take out the Sd card and battery. backup the content of the SD card then format it. slot back both battery and SD card into the phone then boot.
repeat the factory reset and eMMC wipe
waiting....
