Greetings, the only custom recovery i know that works perfectly for Gionee S Plus is in fact, Hovatek's for 5.1 stock rom.

The fact is, 4 days ago, Gionee released the Marshmallow update for this smartphone thru OTA update (1,4Gb). The update works flawlessly and has good performance. However, it puts the stock recovery. The current Hovatek recovery is not possible to flash in Marshmallow rom, has the phone gets into bootloop.

I managed to make a copy of the OTA update file, however i do not see any recovery.img file. When i try to unpack system.new.dat is stops cause it does not find recovery.img.

Can this still be possible to edit or build a custom recovery with your team? I can upload the file, however it can take a while to upload.

dump only recovery.bin using Miracle box @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html and attach the recovery image.
We'll help port a custom recovery to help you root.

I tried to use that software Hovatek, but even with the proper drivers installed, i get the same error "non usb detected". I followed the instructions in the tutorial but got errors.

I'm uploading the entire OTA file tonight, and will provide the link here in this post. Perhaps with the file on your hands you may work with it, as i have no skills in messing with recoveries, roms or port.

Hope it will work and help so many people as me.

Thanks in advance.

The driver installed is the one provided in MediaTek USB VCOM drivers.zip file from the tutorial, named "usb2ser_Win764" in "MediaTek USB VCOM drivers\Drivers\USB VCOM Driver\Win7".

The device manager detects it as "MEdiatek DA USB VCOM (Android) (COM10).

The OTA file is available at: http://www.filedropper.com/56c0bb1793454...d68a4262a4

This file is UNTOUCHED, just downloaded it and made a copy from Gionee S Plus Marshmallow OTA update zip file.

Hope it can work to Hovatek provide a new updated custom recovery and root.

Thanks in advance

There's no way i can connect miracle box to this version on Marshmallow. It just simply cannot find the device (miracle box) although the PC recognizes it as it should Preloader USB VCOM.

Does any of you have the Gionee S Plus? If so you could download the OTA file i uploaded and try for yourself. I cannot understand why i cant use miracle box successfully.

MTK Droid Tools can't find it either.

for miracle box, hope you
* installed vcom preloader
* turned off the phone before connecting to the PC
* connected the phone only after you clicked the START button
* pressed the power button once so the phone would be detected

see the miracle box backup guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html

What are the contents of the OTA zip you uploaded?
is there a recovery.img at least?

Well, after some attempts with other softwares i gathered some files from the OTA file: boot.img, scatter file, recovery.sig.

Uploaded in this link:

BOOT.img : http://www.filedropper.com/boot_9
Recovery.sig: http://www.filedropper.com/recovery_6
Scatter file: http://www.filedropper.com/scatter

HOpe it helps to buiild the custom recovery. Thanks in advance.
