The Tecno Camon C9 is yet another addition to Tecno’s collection of smartphones. This phone runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) making it still unsupported by our favorite one-click root apks (at the moment). By popular demand, Team Hovatek has come out with this rooting guide for Tecno C9 users.

How can I root my Tecno Camon C9?

    There are two main steps:
    • Unlocking the Bootloader of the Tecno Camon C9
    • Flashing the Hovatek TWRP recovery.img and SuperSU.zip
    Procedure
    • Download TWRP for Tecno Camon C9 ported by Team Hovatek @ [ Please, Register to unhide this download link]
    • Setup ADB and Fastboot on the PC using the guide at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-588.html
    • Extract and copy the TWRP recovery.img into the same folder as the fastboot.exe and adb.exe
    • Unlock the Bootloader of the Tecno Camon C9 using the guide at https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-14288.html
    • Download SuperSU 2.76.zip at [ Please, Register to unhide this download link]
    • Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage
    • Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord while switched On and boot it into Fastboot (as instructed in the Bootloader unlock guide; don't forget to re-enable OEM unlocking and USB Debugging)
    • When the phone enters Fastboot, load the TWRP recovery to the phone by typing the command below then pressing Enter
    Code:
    fastboot boot recovery.img
    • The phone should automatically boot into TWRP recovery mode
    • In TWRP, if you get a prompt asking you to swipe to allow modification of the System partition, tap KEEP READ ONLY
    • If TWRP offers to root the phone, select NO
    • In TWRP recovery, tap Install
    • Navigate to the location of the SuperSU.zip on SD card and select it
    • Swipe to confirm flashing of SuperSU.zip and wait till flashing is complete
    • Reboot the phone normally
    • Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker
    • After rooting, If you want Clockworkmod recovery, download CWM for Tecno Camon C9 ported by Team Hovatek at [ Please, Register to unhide this download link] and flash it using Rashr.apk (Install from Playstore)

At first I was able to boot it to recovery but was showing the android robot, and after I power button and the the volume key together and release the same time after few seconds, it only booted to the default recovery, not CWM recovery.

I guess the problem is not the build number….but rather if you are rooting it after the 2 updates or not. Because I bricked mine and couldn’t revive it untill I went to tecno carlcare. And I won’t root it again untill Hovatek uploads a backup rom just incase. So I’d like to advice people if they want to root it- to root it before the 2 updates at least for now.

    It’s nothing to worry about.
Once you get the phone, first do a full dump in scatter format following the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-13347.html
Once you’re done with the backup, report here so we guide you using the above tutorial

I have downloaded the mediatek usb com and miracle box I successfully unzipped mediatek and installed it but each time I try unzipping miracle box it keeps writing this :- [ invalid compressed data to extract ] and then I clicked OK so it will continue with the zip extraction

Then the WinZip asks me if I will like WinZip to try to continue with the next file. which i clicked yes but after the extraction it will display this Message on my pc :-[Winzip encountered problems during operation] then i opened the Unzipped miracle box folder and I noticed that some files outside the extracted folders are missing on my PC and when I tried installing it just show the miracle box symbol as if it will install and bounce back without installing.. And from your tutorial video on installation of miracle box these are the files I noticed that they are in ur miracle box folder after u unziped your own in your tutorial video….
But are not in my own after I unzipped my own
    1. Miracle_box Truly for China mobile [shortcut] 2KB

    2. Miracle_box [application] 45,007 KB

I guess this number 2 is the reason why the app didn’t install when I clicked on miracle_loader_2.27A

    What should I do

Now I understand why we bricked our phones.. This Rooting has two stages

The first stage is the unlocking of bootloader
And the code for that one stopped at [fast boot reboot] then you hit enter button on your PC.

Now allow the phone to boot till it powers on. Then set up your phone language and the rest… Till you get to the normal phone front menu.

    Now Stage 2

Then remove the USB from your phone. And put it back it will ask you to allow access from computer click on yes.

    Now enter d codes
1 [Adb devices] and click enter button

    Now enter second code
2 [adb reboot bootloader] click enter button

Now enter the Third and last code..

    3 [fastboot boot recovery.img]
    Now u are almost done

Follow the guide above and install the supersu as instructed ..

Once again thank u guys thank u hovatek
