Its either the battery is bad or something keeps running.
1. Have you tried a factory reset
2.  Does it overheat even when you dont use it (i.e in idle state)

It doesn't overheat in idle state. Only when in use especially when doing stuffs online. Have not tried factory reset.

Lets try something.
Charge the battery to 100% then disable mobile data and wifi.
Listen to only music or see a movie till the battery approaches 15%. let me know if it overheats during this time and if the battery drains quickly too

I tried it by seeing a movie, it didn't overheat and the battery was working fairly. However, when using mobile data the battery drains faster and the temperature increases. Could it be the phone or the battery is bad?

The problem is from the radio.
Its either you're in an area with poor signal or the firmware has a mobile data bug.
I suggest you first backup the EFS then reflash the firmware.
Another option is to tweak your mobile data settings for lower battery consumption. What is your preset mobile data setting? e,g 4G only, WCDMA only, 2G or 3G etc...

My preset mobile data setting is WCDMA/GSM. Besides I don't know how to carry out the EFS backup or the firmware reflash.

Set it to GSM only.
Surfing will be slow but I'm interested in the overheating.
See if the phone overheats in GSM only mode.
Also, have you tried doing a factory reset?

I did a factory reset and set it on WCDMA only, the heating has dropped and the battery life has improved too. Thanks a lot

Please help oo. The heating has started again even with my phone on GSM only. Read online that I should downgrade my OS because the lollipop is too large for it.
