Hi,

My Mediatek Micromax Canvas Knight A350 is totally dead. Not responding at all to any buttons. No lights or battery indicator is displayed when connected to a charger. But some warmth can be felt on the phone.

When I connect the phone to the pc with a USB cable it is detected as MTK USB Port Comxxxx

But when I use SP flash tools to download the preloader...it does nothing. I guess my phone is hard bricked but I believe it can be restored. Please let me know what to do...Thanks and God bless you.

How exactly did the phone end up in this present state?

Hi,

I had flashed a stock ROM which I had downloaded from the Internet since I did not have a backup (sadly a terrible mistake from my side). The phone started and was working fine. But after a little while it just went off. And it has been in this state since the last two days.

The stock ROM was Kitkat version 3...merged storage. Currently the phone is totally dead. Not responding to anything including SP Flash tools. Tried loading the preloader but there is no response from DA (the red line does not flash at all).

Hope this information is enough. If there is anything please let me know. Thanks and God bless you.

Might be a hardware issue.
In your first post, you said it gets detected as MTK USB Port ....
Right-click that item in Device Manager then try updating using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16839.html
after updating, retry flashing.te]

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Regarding Hardware problem i have a question...will it detect in the device manager if there is a hardware problem? Please let me know. Like I said earlier it detects in the device manager as Mediatek USB PORT COMXXXX.  I have attached a snapshot of the same

I did what you asked of me...but still no signs of life in the phone. When I use the flash tools after installing the drivers it is just blank...please see attached file on SP flash tools.

Dunno what could be the problem...Should i wait for the battery to get drained for the next few days or so? Is it right to do so? Please let me know...thanks and God bless you.

Hardware issue at this point is a pretty broad definition, not necessarily that a component is damaged. It could be that the battery is drained.
Since SP flash tool isn't detecting the device but device manager is, the problem might be from how the device is connected or drivers.

From the first screenshot, I noticed

Mediatek DA USB VCOM Port (COM21)
Mediatek Preloader USB VCOM Port (COM19)
Mediatek USB Port (COM20)

but in the second, Mediatek DA USB VCOM Port (COM21) is missing.
At what point does Mediatek DA USB VCOM Port (COM21) appear and disappear?

Thank you for the reply. The battery draining could be possible. However, i clearly do remember it was around 91% when i flashed the ROM. It wouldn't have drained so quickly unless it has got damaged after flashing.

Regarding the drivers, I apologize for the confusion in the snapshots I sent. The drivers don't disappear. All 3 drivers remain in the device manager except for the Media Tek USB Port driver which comes on when the USB is connected and goes off when USB is disconnected. The other two drivers continue to remain in the system permanently.

Thank you once again. God bless you. Shalom.
This post was last modified: 06-02-2017, 06:40 AM by Voice236. Edit Reason: Phone has been flashed...do i need to boot in stock recovery now and do a factory reset or do I power on as normal? Please suggest...Thanks

Ok.
Right-click and uninstall the MTK USB Port driver. Disconnect then reconnect the phone while holding volume decrease. Let me know if the PC installs any drivers

Thanks for your reply. Did as you said...uninstalled the Media Tek USB Port (Com34). And disconnected the device and reconnected the USB. Now, it installed as MTK USB Port (Com34).

What is the difference between those two drivers? They seem to sound the same but one is Media Tek and the other is MTK...

Thanks once again. God bless you.

Latest Update…

I finally managed to successfully flash a Kitakat 4.4.2 vs. 2 (unmerged storage) stock rom…I downloaded the file again from xdafirmware.com and flashed it. There was no problem.

Before booting I entered into stock recovery and did a wipe data/factory reset and also wipe cache partition. The phone started and was up for an hour or so.

I had not switched on my wifi coz I was worried it might go off again and enter a bootloop.

Battery was 95% when booted...it was 94% after one hour...I had not used the phone at all though...

Then after a while...with no internet...was just going through settings and checking...then I enabled Developers options and connected USB. Tried to check if the phone was listed on ADB etc....but then it went into a bootloop and kept shutting down after periodic bootloops...it went totally down...not responding at all.

Now, after few hours it has started as I plugged into a power bank...shows empty battery sign but not charging...then it gets into boot mode and is contantly bootlooping....please advice...Thanks and God bless you. Shalom.

With this update, I can't totally rule out a hardware (likely USB) problem being involved.
The battery might've been drained by the bootloop.
If the battery is removable then charge it externally and reinsert and lets see if the phone boots up (leave connected to power if you can't charge externally).
Once the battery is charged enough, try booting it up and leaving for 3 hours after which you connect it to a wall charger and observe.
Also, try another firmware just incase its a Kernel (boot.img) issue
