Kindly assist to correct insufficient space error on Google play when updating apps yet phone memory has 1GB free SD has 3GB free

goto application. manage application. scroll to Google play store.
click on it.
click force close.
clear data. cache.
retry.

if it doesn't work. uninstall its update.

is your phone rooted. if it is. open titanium backup.
goto backup and restore.
scroll down to google playstore and click unistqll

have you tried going to playstore under settings > apps and uninstall updates then clearing cache.
Also, ensure that apps are bring installed to SD card, not phone memory

Another thing you can try is to fix using adb, terminal, or root explorer:

compare /data/app to /data/app-lib

you will see, for example:

/data/app/example-app-1.apk

/data/app-lib/example-app-1

/data/app-lib/example-app-2 <--EXTRA

OR

/data/app/example-app-2.apk

/data/app-lib/example-app-1 <--EXTRA

/data/app-lib/example-app-2

So for 1st example remove directory: /data/app-lib/example-app-2

and for 2nd example remove directory: /data/app-lib/example-app-1
