I followed the steps in https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13323.html, trying to fix the "Please enter the Privacy Protection Password" issue but Miracle Box can't detect the phone due to the "USB device is not recognized" issue.

I have manually installed VCOM drivers and installed drivers from another working phone of the same model.

The working phone is detectable with the same USB cord on the same computer so that rules out changing USB cord and/or computer.

Please advise on what to do to sort this out.

I think the USB port of the phone is having issues that's why you are having the USB not recognised problem

Anything I can do to fix that, short of a hardware replacement? Replacing hardware is a pain I'm not sure I'm willing to face.

But you don't have an option than replacing the faulty charging port, but if you know you don't want to replace the port you can bypass the USB way from the main board if you have knowledge of hardware cuz it requires soldering.

Please try different USB cord on different pc and let's see the result... open device manager before connecting the phone and tell me the device list there...??

It's a Hot Note with non-removable battery. To remove it, I'll have to do some unscrewing I think. I've didn't do that before now because I was worried it's not safe.

Its between the port and power issue.
If you choose to take out the battery, follow https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-7338.html
