Its very important to be able to resume your downloads in case of an interruption. Download Managers like Internet Download Manager (IDM) make this possible. Imagine downloading a 3GB file only to get interrupted or fail somewhere around 2.7GB. That's 2.7 GB of your data and your time gone if you can't resume the download.

Requirements

  • Download Internet Download Manager at https://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/download.html and install
  • Ensure to allow / set IDM to grab downloads from your browser
  • The download link to the file you wish to download
  • Windows PC and your browser (Chrome, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge etc)
Disclaimer

If your download had already been interrupted before following this guide then you 'might' not be able to resume such a download. You'll unfortunately need to start afresh following this tutorial.

See the video tutorial below or at https://youtu.be/6EthKxTkLEk

Steps to resume downloads from Google drive

The trick with Google Drive is that you need to be signed out of your Google account. If you are currently signed in then sign out first else this approach won't work.
  • Once your Google drive download begins, cancel / stop it immediately
  • Go to your browser's downloads (where you'll see a list of completed, stopped and ongoing downloads)
  • Right-click the download you just stopped and copy the link / download address
  • Launch IDM and click Add URL at the top left corner
  • Paste the URL and click OK
  • IDM should grab the download after which you click Start download

Steps to resume downloads from Mega.nz

Note: We already have a guide explaining several methods to download from Mega.nz using IDM at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-18831.html
  • Head over to mega-debrit.com
  • Paste your Mega download link in the box
  • Take the Human Verification (reCAPTCHA) test and click Download
  • Wait while the file is grabbed from the Mega.nz server (a bar should load from 1-100%)
  • Once that's done, click on Click here to download
  • Note that you might see a number of interstitial ads before you arrive at the final download link

Steps to resume downloads from 4shared

  • Head over to bagusdl.pro
  • Paste the 4shared download link in the box and click Generate
  • Wait for the page to reload
  • Scroll down and click the download link (server) of your choice
  • Note that you might see a number of interstitial ads before you arrive at the final download link

Steps to resume downloads from Mediafire

There're no extra steps to take here. Open the Mediafire link in your browser and wait while its prepared then click the download button and wait. IDM should automatically grab the download.

Once IDM successfully grabs a download, it should look like the image below. Simply click Start download

Idea  That's what I was missing. Their flash app is stupid. They are hiding direct url, like it's CONFIDENTIAL. And idm is best. Resumability, multiple connections to gain speed are 2 things needed. I also have a habit of keeping all downloaded files in same folder name as their original url. Like d:/web/hovatek.com/(forum)/, and keeping another folder called "hash" near web and hash files using hashmyfiles and save all data in csv, like all hashes + download url + reference url, which is easy to pick up from idm (last 3). I also keep 3rd folder called mhtml and save all web pages there, like your tutorials. Originality is cool. And one helpful thing for backup and investigation is web.archive.org. There you can find all sort of historical websites (microsoft, nokia, dissapeared webpages, old app versions), downloads, data. One small problem are dynamic urls, but by knowing reference url we can easily download something again. IDM is solution! Also idm is resistant to dynamic or temporary url. It automatically discovers new working url by itself or lets us go to ref url and click on download again to resume download. Cool!
