This guide will explain how to fix a phone that has been bricked after installing an OTA update. In this case, the phone boots straight to recovery mode and gets stuck there.

What causes this issue?

Its often due to installing an OTA on a rooted device (or modified boot partition). We've however seen OTA bricks involving both rooted and non-rooted devices so rooting can't be said to be the ultimate cause, only a possible contributing factor.

It often starts with you getting a prompt saying "an update is available" or you going to Settings > About > System update.  If after the update, your phone only boots straight to recovery mode as in the picture above then fixing it is very easy.

All you need to do is download the stock rom / firmware for your model and flash. Which tool you use depends on you chipset.
Mediatek: SP Flash tool
Qualcomm: QFIL
Spreadtrum: Research Download tool

This guide is for MTK (e.g Tecno, Gionee, Infinix, Opsson, Micromax etc) Android phones

All you need to do is get the firmware / stock ROM for your exact phone model then flash only system.img (Android) using SP flash tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-159.html .
