Often atimes one might just need to extract system.img for reasons best known to the person. We created a guide for extracting system.img and also a tool for extracting -sign images too. This guide will show how to repack sparsed split images e.g system_1, system_2.img ... system_*.img [very common image format in qualcomm official firmwares] into one single large system.img file for easy extraction

Requirements

  • packsparseimg
  • sparsed images e.g system_1.img, system_2.img ... system_*.img -- this will be included within the official firmware of your device
  • rawprogram_unsparse.xml -- this will be included within the official firmware of your device

Steps on how to repack sparse cache, userdata and system.img

Follow the steps below to repack sparse image files e.g cache, userdata and system.img

  1. Extract packsparseimg.zip and copy packsparseimg.exe into the same folder where you have your sparsed images and rawprogram_unsparse.xml

  2. Hold shift key and right click on any empty space in the folder where you copied packsparseimg.exe then click "Open Command Window Here"

  3. In the CMD prompt window that opens, type the command below depending on which image you are trying to repack and hit Enter:

    For system
    Code:

    packsparseimg -t system

    For cache
    Code:

    packsparseimg -t cache

    For userdata
    Code:

    packsparseimg -t userdata

  4. Wait while the tool repacks the image for you, and you'll get a message once it's successful

  5. You'll find the single large system.raw within the same folder. You can add .img extension to system.raw or do whatever you wish to do with the file

Important Notice
  • This tool doesn't yet support vendor.img, persist.img or any other images files asides from cache, userdata and system
  • Credits goes to Kidd of XDA forum for packsparseimg
