After cracking open the device and reseating the battery, I was disappointed to find out that it did not improve the situation.
But in the end, I was able to reflash the factory firmware using Transsion's SoftwareDownload tool instead of SPFT. All I had to do was hold all 3 buttons and plug in the device.
So there we have it, done reviving the device, and found a reliable way of doing so as well. Case solved.
