Basically I'm really new to this stuff, I have a Nokia 1 TA-1066 on Android 10 (updated automatically recently) but I want to downgrade. I saw a flash file of android 8.1.0 for Nokia 1 TA-1066 here https://www.quora.com/Where-can-I-get-a-...cover-this
Downloaded it and thinking to flash this. But before that I need to backup stock so that I don't run into issues afterwards. Tried the MTK Droid Tools but it doesn't even recognize...! then on YouTube saw Wwr from hovatek channel but I don't know anything about how to do this. The video was good but I doubt I will do it correctly on my first try...
So what is the roadmap to sucessfully backup?
Also will I be able to come back to android 10 when I'm on the flashed 8.1 Oreo? Will really appreciate any support because there was almost no support on XDA Developers...

you can use the wwr mtk guide to make a firmware backup
when performing a readback using SP flash tool, ensure to use the DA file for your model @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-23528.html

about returning back to android 10, you should be able to auto update the device OR better still if the device doesn't reject "un-signed" firmware e.g one you get from a backup then you can flash the backup to return back to android 10

also about the unsigned firmware, the android 8 firmware you downloaded seems to be a backup firmware too
if you have problems flashing it, then be sure download firmware from the link in the important notice section @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-26928.html
extract nb0 using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-31575.html then you can flash using SP flash tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-159.html

I really appreciate for your support. It was very detailed and informative. The way it explains if-else stuff is great. What correct measures should I remember e.g. I saw we need to select certain partitions to backup/flash but which ones to backup of stock and which ones to flash from 8.1 "unsigned firmware"? BTW root cause of this is I tried to flash and boot TWRP but it always booted to Android 10, so thought of patching the boot.img with magisk manager and using it while flashing the 8.1 firmware, do you think there's a better way to achieve this i.e. rooting with magisk or are there any chances that I'll be able to boot to TWRP with the flashed 8.1.0?

backup all partitions
for which partitions to flash, best you download factory firmware from the link in my previous reply. the scatter file from the factory firmware will tell which files to exclude when flashing

not sure what you are trying to achieve here, create a new thread for twrp and root issue

Hello, I did the same as you guided and was able to actually reach 8.1 Oreo.
But there seems to be a problem, Firstly I backed up my all partitions, I flashed the backup firmware on my device from quora that I had downloaded, which wasn't booting so tried to flash my backup from Android 10 but it gave a CHIP TYPE error why this happened? and how will I be able to correctly backup Android 10 firmware?

Though now as I flashed android 8.1 from link you recommended, it works fine. But I wonder what could have gone wrong in backing up.
I really want to make good backup, I'll be system updating to Android 10 just for that (as I can jump to 8.1 with confidence now)
Also can I in someway make a "signed" firmware from Android 10 just like those 8.1 firmware that works out-of-the-box?
So that I can flash easily and even share it to someone needy?

BTW really great support it have been from your side.

Nokia 1 has secure boot. Backups are of little use on such devices (except NV backups), you'll most likely end up with a bootloop / stuck at logo on flashing a firmware backup. The best you can have is a TWRP backup on an unlocked bootloader

No you can't since you don't have the OEM keys
