Voicemail is an easy-to-use answering service, available to both Prepaid and Postpaid Airtel subscribers.
How does Voicemail work?
If you are not available to answer your phone (or it is switched off), Voicemail will take a message. The caller will hear your recorded message, asking them to leave a message for you.
Your phone will then alert you that you have messages to pick up. Just dial 132 to hear your messages.
How to activate Voicemail
It only takes a minute to activate your Voicemail:
* Dial 132 or Text ACT VMS to 134
* Press SEND
* Follow the spoken instructions to activate your Voicemail
* You will receive an SMS notification when your Voicemail has been activated
* Set your 4-digit PIN code.
* Record an outgoing message for your callers (something like: 'I can't answer the phone right now. Please leave me a message')
* Follow the spoken instructions to further customize the service if you like.
* You are now ready to receive your Voicemail messages.
How to listen to / retrieve your Voicemail messages
Your phone will alert you if somebody has left a Voicemail message for you. You can choose any kind of alert from the Voicemail menu available when you dial 132.
How to pick up your messages
* Dial 132
* Press SEND
* You are now connected to the Voicemail service. Just follow the spoken instructions to pick up your messages.
How to pick up your messages when you are travelling abroad
When you want to pick up your messages from another country using your Airtel handset or any other phone:
* Dial +234 802 132
* Press SEND
* Enter your mail box number followed by # (this is your mobile phone number)
* Enter your PIN number followed by #
Note
* You must have a password set up on your phone before you leave Nigeria in order to use this service
* Calls to retrieve voice messages from abroad will attract the relevant roaming charges
How to pick up your messages from another phone
When you want to pick up your messages from any other phone from within Nigeria:
Dial 0802 132 + the last four digits of your phone number
E.g. if your phone number is 08021234567 you will dial
Code:
08021324567
* Enter your mailbox number# (this is your mobile phone number)
* Enter your PIN number followed by #
Note: you must have a password set up on your phone in order to use this service.
How to divert calls to your Voicemail
You can divert your incoming calls to Voicemail so that callers can leave you a message. It's a good idea to do this if you are not available to answer the phone.
The Voicemail service will automatically take messages if your phone is switched off or if you are outside the coverage area.
To divert calls to Voicemail:
* Open your phone's main menu
* Select Call Divert
* Choose the option you would like (divert if busy, divert if not answered, divert if out of reach, etc)
* Select Activate
* Divert to number +2348020100132
How much does it cost?
There is no charge to you (the Airtel subscriber) when a caller leaves a Voicemail message for you. The caller leaving you a Voicemail message is charged at regular calling rates.
Retrieving your messages is free if you call from your Airtel phone or charged at regular calling rates if retrieved from another phone.
