This is a step-by-step guide on how to prevent stock recovery from automatically replacing a flashed custom recovery. When it comes to flashing TWRP / CWM to your MTK Android phone, two issues you could encounter are:
  • Stock recovery remains despite successfully flashing TWRP / CWM recovery
  • TWRP / CWM automatically gets replaced by Stock recovery after you reboot.

Steps to fix TWRP / CWM getting replaced by Stock recovery after reboot

Follow the steps below to permanently flash a custom recovery

Case 1: Stock recovery remains despite successfully flashing TWRP recovery

If you encounter this then ensure to:
  1. Flash the TWRP / CWM recovery image using the latest version of SP flash tool
  2. Flash the recovery image two consecutive times before attempting to boot into recovery mode
  3. Ensure that the custom recovery was ported from a stock recovery for your exact build number

Case 2: TWRP automatically gets replaced by Stock recovery after you reboot

After flashing and booting into TWRP, If you get a prompt like this:

[Image: TWRP-for-Infinix-Hot-2-X510-1GB-2GB-b.jpg]

Saying

System Partition UNMODIFIED

TWRP can leave your system partition unmodified to make it easier for you to take official updates.
TWRP will be unable to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP and will not offer to root your device.[/code]

You are to Swipe to Allow Modification. To swipe, you hold down your finger on that spot and slide from left to right,

Another cause of this issue is recovery-from-boot.p located in /system. You need to root and change this to recovery-from-boot.bak or do so from TWRP > Advanced > File manager (ensure to mount system first in TWRP > mount)
