Its not too rampant but there are times you could suddenly be greeted with a Please enter the privacy protection password to unlock message on your Mediatek Android phone when booting up. In some cases, you actually did set one but in most cases, you never did and have absolutely no idea what a Privacy Protection Password even is.

What is Privacy Protection Password and what causes it?

This was actually intended to be an anti-theft feature to protect your device but ends up ranging from unreliable to a plain annoying feature because you wind up getting locked out of your own device. The error often occurs when:
  1. You take out the SIM card
  2. The SIM card loses content with the SIM connector (by falling , vibration etc)
The common denominator here is you removing your SIM or it being lifted from the connector (whether intentionally or accidentally). When you encounter this issue, your screen will look something like in the image below

How can I fix / bypass the Privacy Protection Password problem?

Follow any of the methods below to resolve privacy protection password error on a mediatek android phone

Method 1: Format NVdata Partition Using SP Flash tool

Using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-21638.html , format ONLY NVdata partition

Method 2: Format NVdata Partition Using NCK Box AndroidMTK

Using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-26275.html , format ONLY NVdata partition

Method 3: Miracle Box bypass

Follow the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-13323.html

Method 4: NCK Pro Box

Follow the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-26425.html

Important Notice
While formatting the phone and re-flashing the firmware does remove the error, this technique has way more disadvantages than benefits. You stand to lose IMEI and could end up with an auth file request on Secure Boot devices.

Hi I have a Starmobile Octa phone which is not rooted, has a fixed battery, also it has internal memory or no sd card slot. Immediately after booting its unlocked with no privacy protection password but only lasts 3 - 5 seconds and if it is connected to a computer while and after booting it will just show that its charging, no usb options. Is it safe to flash without removing the battery? I dont wanna brick my phone Sad when i shut it off and connect it to usb it detects it for a sec and disappears again. Thanks a lot  Big Grin

you're supposed to install vcom drivers as instructed in the guide. also, ensure you have the exact stock ROM for your phone model
See the video for clarification
