Hi to all,

I am a new member here, and my 1st post.

First I will give description of my device, installed software etc and then come to the issue.

My Device - As shown in Mtk Droid Tools 2.5.3d

Hardware : MT6582 (MT8312 is Fake!)
Model : 3G 7271-HD70
Build number : iBall Slide 3G 7271-HD70_KK_V9.0,2014-11-5
Build date UTC : 20141105-125918
Android v : 4.4.2
Baseband v: MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V35.P4, 2014/06/27 14:22
Kernel v : 3.4.67 (zouqb@softdeps01) (gcc version 4.7 (GCC) ) #1 SMP Wed Nov 5 20:46:33 CST 2014
Uboot build v : -----
LCD Driver IC : 0-kd070d23-40na-a16

The Color button on the Bottom Left of MTK Droid shows GREEN, indicating I have Root Access on my device and also have installed:

Kingroot
abdb insecure (enabled secure mode)
Busybox
USB debugging, Connected via MTP mode through USB

On my PC I have

Windows 7,
PDANet A4183 drivers,
VCOM drivers, Preloaders etc.
MTK Droid Tools 2.5.3d
SP Flash Tools v5.1548

ISSUES BEING FACED IN MTK DROID TOOLS

My device gets detected in the MTK Droid but after clicking on the Backup (in root.backup.recovery tab) it goes upto preloader_and_dsp and sits there for ever. The green bar at the bottom keeps on moving from left to right, for ever.

On my device, I checked the situation using root browser, in my SD Card -> location -> /mnt/media_rw/sdcard0/clockworkmod/backup/160520-200455/ and saw the same file preloader_and_dsp and the size is 2.03 MB. Checked back after 1 hour, the size increased upto 2.60 MB ONLY!

That way one can understand how many years it will take to backup around 5 GB of my Stock ROM + User data.

Now I killed the MTK Droid Tools. Log from Opening up the MTK droid upto killing it, is shared below:

ISSUES BEING FACED IN SP FLASH TOOL (v5.1548)

I opened up SP Flash Tool (v5.1548) and loaded the same scatter file and using the Readback Tab-> Add button created ROM_0 using:

physical_start_addr: 0x0 of preloader.bin (as mentioned in the scatter file above) ---- in the Start Address
linear_start_addr: 0x14E380000 of FAT ------ in the Length Fields of the Dialog box -> Readback block start address and confirmed that the Type is HEX.

Switched of my device and using the Reset button (my devices has inbuilt battery) I started the procedure and clicked Readback button on SP Flash Tools.

I took around 20 minutes for the process to get completed and it confirmed with a Green BOX with Tick, indicating that the task is finished OK.

Disconnected the device and Booted it back.

Now in the MTK droid tools -> root.backup.recovery -> To process file ROM_ from Flash Tool I extracted the ROM_0 that I created in the SP flash tools and it took around 25 minutes for the process to get completed and the task completed as OK.

LIST of FILES created by MTK Droid using ROM_0 of SP Flash Tools

131,072 seccfg
6,291,456 secro.img
1,073,741,824 system.img
393,216 uboot.bin

The size is around 5.2 GB

The List above seems ok apparently, but it has one missing file i.e. lk.bin

and therefore in the SP Flash tools, after loading the Scatter file from the Backup folder, the UBOOT option is unchecked.

Now using the Hovatek Video on Youtube (actually I learned everything from the video itself, Congrats Hovatek for this), I used the same procedure as shown to create boot.img and recovery.img, I created lk.bin using the same address procedure. Now after the file was created I refreshed SP Flash tools and WOW, the UBOOT was checked. Checked the bytes of the lk.bin file from the scatter file, and they matched. I used this procedure:

linear_start_addr: 0x3120000 of UBOOT Partition i.e. lk.bin
partition_size: 0x60000 of UBOOT Partition

accordingly, the size that comes is 393216 bytes, and bingo, the file size of lk.bin was also the same.

HOWEVER....
============

To my astonishment, while I checked in the blockmap of MTK droid tool I found out that the sizes of some files like mentioned below don't match.

preloader.bin on blockmap shows 20971520 bytes (20 MB) on disk it is 119,176
MBR on blockmap shows 524288 on disk it is 512 bytes
ebr1 on blockmap shows 524288 on disk it is 512 bytes

well I can understand 524288 divided by 1024 is 512 bytes though, but Did I do something wrong or it is shown that way only?

factory_NONmodified_recovery.img on blockmap is 16777216 bytes, but the CWM boot recovery patched file 3G-7271-HD70_141105__boot_patched_160518-201438.img is 5718016 bytes
and
3G-7271-HD70_141105__recovery_160518-201438.img is of 6,416,384 bytes

In various articles I have read not to flash Preloader and DSP_BL because it will brick your device, but the reason I have written this lenghty post is to know:

1. Where is the DSP_BL file and why is there difference in the file sizes of Preloader.bin (the most important part of stock rom) and others
2. Why I am not able to Backup using MTK droid tools, as that way I can cross check my procedure.
3. Is the procedure I have followed CORRECT or I missed something here.....

Thanks so much in advance and Kind regards

Rajneesh

* its not compuslory that you must have DSP file
* flashing preloader.bin isnt necessary except if the phone is totally dead
* your backup files seem OK
* try using the mtkdroid tools v2.5.3 @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-468.html ..see if it gets stuck while backing up preloader_and_dsp

Hi X3non,

Thanks so much for the prompt reply.

Correct. Flashing preloader.bin isn't necessary, but what if? (God forbid), because the created file doesn't seem ok.

However, I will use Mtkdroid tools v2.5.3 and report back.

Thanks once again

Hi X3non,

Bad Luck. Used Mtkdroid tools v2.5.3, in half an hour, it copied only 1 Mb. Too slow. I therefore killed it.

Isn't there any way to avoid mtkdroid tool to write on SD card, but instead directly on the CPUs HDD. Or if I connect external USB drive, will it work?

Don't know what do with this. Stuck up!

Edit: Now as a last resort, I did a factory reset, and now will try doing the procedure again. Lets hope if this helps...

Nope... Nothing! Still the same!

Please...

try using a formatted SD card with size of about 4GB or more
also try running less apps on both phone and PC when creating the backup
* if you dont use an SD card and the internal storage of the device isnt large enough then mtkdroid tools wont be able to backup /system partition

I think this should work, because I remember once, when I switched to USB files copy mode, the PC said, there are some issues with your SD card, do you want to fix it. However, no issues were found, so I didn't bother.

Lets see....

Bad Luck!

I formatted my SD Card, it has 6.8 Gb free. Started the Backup and in one hour, it was able to copy only 1.3Mb of Preloader_dsp. Killed it. Used Mtkdroid tool 2.5.3d.

I will try backing up using mtk droid 2.5.3. The device has become very hot right now, and reboots after 5 mts.

But I dont think it is going to help either.

I have an 8Gb MicroSD HC I card (Class 4) with speed upto 4mb/s. The card has 2 Partitions one FAT32 of 6.9 and other one Ext4 of 600Mbs. Total RAM is 1Gb, workable around 644 Mb.

When I connect the device via USB mass storage, the copying speed is around 4.5mb/s. My PC RAM is 4Gb, 2.9 Ghz CPU

seems like your device isnt fully compactible with mtk droid tools
you'd have to use the rom dump you made using the readback method

When I connect the device via USB mass storage, the copying speed is around 4.5mb/s.  My PC RAM is 4Gb, 2.9 Ghz CPU

seems like your device isnt fully compactible with mtk droid tools
you'd have to use the rom dump you made using the readback method

Oh!

Any ways, going back to the backup created using SP flash tools readback, and mtk droid:

6,416,384 ----- 3G-7271-HD70_141105__recovery_160518-201438.img

16,777,216 ------ factory_NONmodified_recovery.img

The last file is the default recovery of device whose size is 16Mb and the 2nd file is CWM recovery but the size is 6Mb

Can I downdoad the small file with CWM recovery through SP Flash and that wont brick the device?

If not, then I can then create the backup of my Stock ROM, with CWM recovery, correct?
