[Tutorial] How to Fix "Registry Editing has been Disabled by Your Administrator" Error

If for whatever reason you decide to edit items in your PC's windows registry and you come across this error "Registry editing has been disabled by your administrator", don't panic yet. It can be cause by a number of reason. eg Virus, an Admin personally blocking other users from accessing the registry etc. Some causes are easily fixed than others.

How to Fix "Registry Editing has been Disabled by Your Administrator" Error



Method 1


  1. Download and install a good AntiVirus
  2. Do a full system scan using an Antivirus. A boot time scan would be more preferrable
  3. Fix or Delete any viruses found
  4. Restart the PC and check if the problem still persist

Method 2


This method involves using a tool created by Symantec. This tool would help reset the necessary registry values to their default settings.
  1. Download and extract the content of the UnHookExec zip file from the attachment below
  2. Right click on UnHookExec.inf
  3. Click on Install
  4. Restart the PC and check if the problem still persist

Method 3


This method involves manually disabling registry access lock in group policies.
  1. Click on Start Menu and type gpedit.msc

  2. Group Policy window should open

  3. Navigate to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System

  4. On the right hand pane, scroll down and double click on "Prevent access to registry editing tools"
  5. A new window should open
  6. On the settings tab, choose either Not configured OR Disabled

  7. Restart the PC and check if the problem still persist

Method 4


When you've exhausted all other methods and still problem still persist then simply
  1. Re-Install a new OS
