Windows 7 to 8.1pro

#1

Hello my laptop was shipped with windows 8.1 pro. I downgraded to windows 7 but lost the windows 8.1 backup. Now that I want to get back to the previous version of windows is it possible to find the original product key since it's not written anywhere on the stickers and the laptop didn't come with windows installation disc? Model of the laptop is gateway ne56r.

* when you downgraded, did you format the entire hard drive?
* do you remember if your PC had a recovery partition?

if you didn't format then a factory restore ought to do else, see https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-14229.html

I didn't format the hard drive. How can I know whether there's a recovery partition. There's a partition named G 86.3mb free of 349 mb that appeared automatically after installing windows 7 but when you open the partition it's empty could it be the recovery partition?

The recovery partition is usually named RECOVERY and can be quite large at least 15GB or more. The 300mb+ partition you saw is system reserved. I doubt your PC would come with a recovery partition.
You can simply install a fresh windows 8.1 using the guide @ https://blog.hovatek.com/how-to-install-...em-cd-dvd/
and activate using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-14229.html
