The backup doesn't look complete.
Did you get any error before backup was done?
Like "backup completed but with errors"?

there probably isn't enough space on your SD card or the place where the Nandroid backup is saved to on your phone.
Create more space before the backup

There was enough space. when it got to system.tar, The Sdcard unmounted itself (Sd card unexpectedly removed). I tried the process (backup) again but still got the same issue. Am using a 16gb sd card

take out / reinsert the SD card firmly again (pad the SD card with something if you must so it won't move out of position) > place your phone on a steady surface
then try doing the backup again without moving your phone around
