How to root Gionee M5 Mini running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow
  • Install VCOM drivers on your PC using https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-440.html
  • Download SuperSU 2.78.zip @ https://hovatek.com/redirect.php?link=ht...4631642692
  • Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage

  • Switch off the phone (still with battery inside)
  • Backup your current firmware using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-13347.html
  • Copy the preloader.bin from your firmware dump to the same folder as the CWM recovery image (ensure to replace any previous preloader.bin file)
  • Flash both the preloader.bin and CWM recovery.bin to the phone using Miracle Box @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-14106.html
  • Boot the phone into recovery mode using Volume up button + Power button
  • In CWM recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select
  • Select Install Zip
  • Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.78.zip on the Internal storage and select it

your device has a different build number but
first dump / backup your firmware using the guide @ https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-13347.html
then attempt rooting using the guide above

Have you rooted yours now? If so, did it erase your data?

Alright. Thanks a lot for the quick response. Will I be able to unroot it afterwards using apps like KingRoot?
BTW, my build is;
[SW VERSION]
M5 mini_0301_V8334
[HW VERSION]
M5 mini_Mainboard_P3

No, you won't be able to unroot using Kingroot.
To unroot, you would need to flash back stock boot.img & recovery.img then do a factory reset
