[Development] How to root Gionee M5 Mini MarshMallow

The Gionee M5 Mini is an MT6580 powered phone running on Android version: 5.1 but can be upgraded to Android version: 6.0
Before proceeding with this guide, ensure your build number (Settings > About phone > Build number) is as follows

How to root Gionee M5 Mini running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow
- Install VCOM drivers on your PC using https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-440.html
- Download SuperSU 2.78.zip @ https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=457084094631642692
- Copy SuperSU.zip to both the phone’s SD card and internal storage
- Download CWM for Gionee M5 Mini Marshmallow ported by Team Hovatek at https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4S-Z7...ktLQmFkcW8
- Switch off the phone (still with battery inside)
- Backup your current firmware using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html
- Copy the preloader.bin from your firmware dump to the same folder as the CWM recovery image (ensure to replace any previous preloader.bin file)
- Flash both the preloader.bin and CWM recovery.bin to the phone using Miracle Box @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-14106.html
- Boot the phone into recovery mode using Volume up button + Power button
- In CWM recovery, you use the Volume buttons to navigate and Power button to select
- Select Install Zip
- Navigate to the location of the SuperSU2.78.zip on the Internal storage and select it
- Wait till flashing is complete
- If you are prompted to fix root, select No
- Reboot the phone normally
- Confirm Root by installing and running Root Checker

your device has a different build number but
first dump / backup your firmware using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html
then attempt rooting using the guide above

My m5 mini I upgraded to is 6.0 in January n later anoda update for battery display issues, day was February 28.
Now all a apps start asking for permissions wch normally dey had b4. And wen I click owk a fone says "to grant permissions I have to turn off screen overlay settings from settings>apps".
I earlier did an eMMC reset k it cleared did issue. But it's not 24hrs n d problem is back.
Pls advice urgently, thanks

the screenshot in the first post of this thread is a verification of a rooted M5 mini running v6
and using the guide on this thread doesnt erase data on the device.
