In this guide, we'll be looking at two methods of backing up an Android phone's ROM

Method 1 (Using MTK Droid Tools for MTK based devices)

Requirements
Steps to backup using MTK Droid tools
  1. Enable USB debugging on the phone (settings > developer options) then connect it to the PC
  2. Install PdaNet on the PC with the phone connected ( you should see a message that says drivers successfully installed at the end)
  3. Launch MTK droid tools. it will read your phone and display your phone's details
  4. You should see a Yellow box at the bottom of MTK
  5. Click root at the bottom
  6. If prompted on the PC, click OK or Yes.
  7. On your phone, grant MTK super user permissions if prompted
  8. Let MTK complete the bar loading process
  9. The box at the lower left should now change from color yellow to green
  10. Once it is green, click on the root.backup.recovery tab
  11. Click backup (you should observe files being copied and logged by the right side)
  12. If prompted to pack backup, select NO
  13. Once backup is complete, open a folder named backup inside the MTK Droid Tools folder
  14. You'll see a folder named after your phone with a date / numbers, this is your backup.

Method 2 (Using Clockworkmod for all Android devices)

Requirements
Procedure
  1. Boot the phone into recovery mode (Google for the exact method for your phone model but generally, its ; switch off the phone > hold down the volume increase button > hold down the power button > keep holding both down till the phone boots into recovery mode
  2. Scroll down to backup and Restore using the volume buttons and select using the power button
  3. Click Backup
  4. Wait till backup is complete then reboot the phone
  5. Open memory card (SD Card) > clockworkmod > backup
  6. The folder named after the present date is your backup folder

Ensure that you have Backup and Restore is enabled in Settings on your phone.
(Use this in conjunction with one or more of the methods below as the backup is limited to apps, Contacts, Calendar, etc), how to backup text messages
