Sometimes, you could encounter connection-disconnection sounds during flashing attempts, causing the flashing process not to even begin (the phone could start charging, show a charging sign or boot up instead of flashing). This scenario isn't limited to flashing alone. You could encounter something similar with ADB / Fastboot drivers. In such a case, updating the Mediatek (MTK) or Spreadtrum (SPD) device's USB drivers could help with detection issues.

Requirements

Steps to manually update Mediatek or Spreadtrum drivers

See the video below or @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq-f6WKD_JY

  1. In Windows, go to Control Panel and launch Device Manager; take a mental note of what is listed

  2. Switch off (with battery inside) then connect the affected (not properly detected) device and take note of any new item on the list; this is what the device is being detected as. In this example, its under Ports (COM & LPT)

  3. [Image: How-to-manually-update-Mediatek-or-Sprea...s-PC-2.jpg]

  4. You would notice that the new entry [ (Mediatek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (COM3)  in this example ] disappears after a few seconds, not to worry

  5. Click View at the top

  6. Under View, click Show hidden devices

  7. You should now see all devices, including yours that appeared and disappeared  [ (Mediatek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) (COM3)  in this example ]

  8. Right-click the driver and select Update Driver Software...

  9. From this point, simply follow the manual drivers installation guide for your type of phone below:
  10. For Mediatek (MTK), see https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-440.html
  11. For Spreadtrum (SPD), see https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-827.html
  12. For other drivers or a generic guide, see https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16648.html

Important Notice
  • You sometimes have to hold the Volume down / decrease button on the phone when connecting (via USB cord) to PC in order to trigger driver installation
  • If the device constantly connects and disconnects then its either a power or USB cord / port related issue
  • If the device is still not detected then connect it to PC while off > Launch Device Manager > Show all hidden devices > Uninstall all Mediatek drivers > Disconnect the phone then reconnect when ready to flash
