This guide will explain how to write IMEI or fix Null IMEI on a HTC Android device using fastboot. A phone with null IMEI might not be able to detect network, make or receive calls.

Requirement

  • A Rooted HTC
  • S-Off state
  • PC
  • HTC drivers installed
  • Setup fastboot on the PC

How to write IMEI to HTC Android devices using fastboot

  1. Boot into fastboot mode (Volume down + Power button > Bootloader > Press Power button to select fastboot )
  2. Connect the phone to the PC via USB cord
  3. If the PC pops up a driver installation box at the system tray, wait till driver installation is complete
  4. Open the folder where fastboot.exe is located > Click on any blank space within the folder > Hold Shift on the keyboard > Right-click any blank space within the folder > Select "Open command window here" > Command prompt should pop up
  5. In command prompt, type the code below then press Enter

    Code:

    fastboot oem ?

  6. A list should appear to confirm that your HTC phone was detected by the PC
  7. Check the list for writeimei because its required for this procedure. Proceed if present
  8. In the command prompt, type the code below then press Enter (replace 012345678923453 with the IMEI of your choice)

    Code:

    fastboot writeimei 012345678923453

    or

    Code:

    fastboot oem writeimei 012345678923453

  9. Type the command below to reboot the device normally then press Enter

    Code:

    fastboot reboot

Important Notice
This guide only explains how to write IMEI (not change) so you are entirely responsible for what IMEI you chose to write

Aft first it seems to work (if I check imei using getvar it does show the changed imei, adfter having used the command fastboot oem writeimei), but as soon as I exit flashboot and boot the phone regularly, the IMEI gets changed back automatically... Any ideas why / how to fix this? thanks a lot!
