Hi, sorry if this isn't the place for this
I attempted a root for my Infinix Hot 4 (Android 6.0) and failed miserably. First I tried Kingo Root but that kept failing. I guessed it had to do with this bootloader thing....so I ended up trying again using a guide from this website called naijnaira (how-to-root-infinix-hot-4-x557-and-port-twrp-recovery-image) [I can't post proper linnks].
The end result is that when I try a regular start up it loops on the logo. I can still go to the TWRP bootup though.
I read that if I just installed an image file named system.iso it would return to normal, but I can't locate any iso with that name...
I followed those instructions with one or two divergences which I guess was the problem...? I'm pretty much entirely new to this.
The main difference is that the link given in that guide to the download page for Infinix Hot 4 TWRP Recovery Image was no longer working. So I googled a new one and used this one instead.  (website called needrom , twrp-recovery-for-infinix-hot-4/)
The second difference is that when I flashed TWRM I turned back on my phone the regular way because I realised I hadn't moved the Super SU zip onto my SD card. So I did that, reflashed TWRM, and then installed the Super SU zip. and had it auto reboot when done. That's when the looping problem began.
I just installing that zip file again and this time clearing the cache afterwards and then rebooting. No difference.

Right now I'm thinking of this Infinix Flash Tool I read about, and trying to track down the original Infinix software to flash back onto my phone, but I read that it is effectively a factory reset and I'll lose all my data....

If there's another option please please tell me.
Thank you and sorry again if this is the wrong place.

prgrams I used

your phone is currently soft bricked. you'll need to flash stock rom to fix that before you can attempt to root
first you need to get the build number of your Hot 4; use method 3 at https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-16005.html to determine the build number of your device
lets know the outcome

Thank you so much for the reply. I don't know what a Hardware Box or a Dongle is so I assume I don't have them. Unless it's just a USB cable for the phone...?
I'll try using the launcher method for Miracle Box
Chrome blocked Miracle Box when it finished downloading but I just took the .crdownload file aad changed it to a .zip

I downloaded that rom zip file and moved it to my phone and tried to "install zip" via TWRM
I got the following
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
(in red) Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/androud/update-binary' in the zip file.
Error installing zip file '/external_sd/X557-H807AD-M-170524V251.zip' (end red)

That rom isn't a flashable zip. You flash using Sp flash tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-159.html not stock recovery

Ah, I see. But which boxes should I tick? Booting? (I've been hesitant to flash it on because I read somewhere that it formats or deletes data as a side effect, but I guess it's a matter of boxes ticked...?)

EDIT: and to clarify, is just downloading the scatter file from the hovatek forum ("[Hovatek]Infinix X557 Scatter file (H807AD-M-170524V251)[Miracle Box Dump].zip") and extracting from this zip sufficient? Or do I need to download the whole firmware from the link I gave and have those files in the same folder as the scatter file?

only your SD card is really totally safe
you could try flashing ONLY boot, recovery and system.img from the rom you downloaded but if flashing is successful and phone still loops on logo then you'll have to perform a factory reset in recovery mode

downloading only scatter file isn't going to cut it, you'll need the entire stock rom and there's no need of re-downloading again if you've already downloaded a firmware that matches the build number of your device

Ok, thanks! So I've used TWRP to backup, wasn't sure what each option was so I just the Data option so now that's on my SD Card. Let's do this Cool
