I updated my Avast engine and virus definition and ever since then my PC started running slow.
If I want to open an application it takes to much time to open.
I discovered that if I disable the avast antivirus,  my PC runs fine but my system is at risk if I leave the antivirus disabled.
Please help me and confused.

You have found your problem. Is your avast original and licensed?
What I would have suggested will defeat the aim of actually having an anti-virus in the first place.

Is another antivirus (aside avast) running on your PC?

No. The only antivirus I installed on my PC is avast (aside windows defender).

That could be a problem. One should be disabled / uninstalled for the other

But I thought windows defender is an inbuilt antivirus that can work along with other antivirus.

And before I updated the virus definition in avast, my system was run fine.

Its not a good idea to run multiple antivirus programs at the same time. They don't play well together.
