Hello hovatek...please i want to root my pop 1 and i have not been able to find any custom recovery for it yet and i am WEARY of magisk cos it always end up bricking devices. please assist me, thank you.

custom recovery method can also brick your device plus unless you've actually tried magisk and follow all the instructions properly then you can't really conclude
download firmware or boot.img for your exact build @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-23176.html OR backup firmware from your device using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21970.html or https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html
then patch boot and root using magisk; see https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21427.html

Yes I have used magisk before and it bricked the device but I'm willing to do it again. I can't find my build in the list you provided.

use wwr_mtk tool @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-21970.html to backup your phone’s firmware.
Once successful use the boot.img you’ve got in your backup folder to root with magisk.

While you could go with flashing using SP flash tool, I would suggest you go via fastboot method (unlock bootloader) since your phone has secure boot
Lets know once you've backed up your firmware for the needed files.

OK GUYS, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET MY FIRMWARE BACKED UP THANKS TO THE TUTORIAL VIDEO (GRADUALLY BECOMING A GURU SHA LOL)NB. I USED V2.51

IF I DID IT WELL THEN ALL SHOULD BE OK...WHAT DO I DO FROM HERE???

unlock bootloader using the guide @ https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-19578.html
flash patched boot using fastboot "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
