About QFIL

Qualcomm Flash Image Loader (QFIL) is one of the tools you'll find when you install Qualcomm Product Support Tool (QPST). It was developed by Qualcomm Technologies Inc.
Its a tool for flashing firmware / stock rom to Qualcomm Android devices in Emergency Download (EDL) Mode. It also has a QCN backup & restore function which requires the device to be in Diagnostic (Diag) Mode

Downloading QFIL

We have a collection of QFIL versions which you can download at our QFIL Setup collections thread . If you encounter an error with a particular version then try another. Its a good idea to try the latest version first though.

How to Flash with QFIL Tool

As earlier said, you need to get the device into EDL Mode. You can achieve that on some devices as easily as holding both volume buttons (while powered off). For some, fastboot method would work (unlocked bootloader) while some require Test Points (a hardware approach which involves disassembling the device to expose the board).

You may connect the device at any point before you begin the flashing (Download). If properly detected by QFIL, you should see Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.

You have two flash options, Flat Build and Meta Build. Chances are that the firmware you have is of Flat Build. To flash this, your firmware must contain a programmer file (an ELF binary in recent devices, MBN in older ones), rawprogram().xml, patch().xml and the images (files) to be flashed. While you can use a generic programmer file on some models, some will only work with a specific programmer file which you can obtain from the factory firmware for that device model.

You can find the step-by-step procedure and video at our how to use QFIL tutorial.

How to backup and restore QCN in QFIL

If you encounter network / IMEI issues then you'll find a QCN backup for your model handy. Backing up or restoring QCN in QFIL requires the device in Diagnostic Mode. For best compatibility, you backup QCN from a working deice of the same model.

Detailed steps and a video on this are at our QFIL QCN backup & restore tutorial .

Errors in QFIL

One common error is the Sahara Fail error. You can find the fix at our list of QFIL errors and their fixes thread.

Note: The EDL mode itself implements the Qualcomm Sahara protocol, which accepts an OEM-digitally-signed programmer (an ELF binary in recent devices, MBN in older ones) over USB, that acts as an SBL. Modern such programmers implement the Firehose protocol.
