I'm trying to backup my phone firmware reading the tutorial on how to backup an MTK device firmware with wwr tool. 
Please I don't understand the memory type field can anybody explain.

Most MediaTek phones are eMMC, your phone's memory must be an eMMC too.
If you're not sure about your phone's memory type you can search the phone's specs online.

to save your time, create an emmc scatter file, try reading back
if your device has nand storage then spft will indicate this by throwing and error similar to the error below, if it does the switch to nand scatter file

scatter storage type is HW_STORAGE_EMMC
target storage type is HW_STORAGE_NAND
