Hi, I start by saying what I did to get to this point.

N.B. To work I used Ubuntu with the latest official version of platform-tools released by Google, but I did the same tests also using the adb and fastboot tool directly installable from Ubuntu or using Windows always both via platform-tools and by installing adb.

I took my Teclast M40 with its stock ROM and I unlocked the bootloader following its guide ( https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-32287.html ).
The bootloader has been successfully unlocked as can be seen both from the text message that appears on the boot screen and from the phone settings.
Once this is done I followed the generic guide to root Unisoc devices (SPD) equipped with Android 9 ( https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-32678.html ) taking care to pay attention to the precautions related to mine model (indicated on this page https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-37632.html ).
After creating and signing the vbmeta-sign-custom.img and boot_magisk.img file and having flashed them in the correct order using the fastboot commands indicated in the guide, I went to the phone and downloading Root Checker I verified that the root is been successfully enabled.

Now, I would like to try to flash a new custom ROM, different from the original, I tried with the ShapeShiftOS ROM which I know for sure that it is compatible on the device as this version has already been tested by other users.
I connected the phone to the Ubuntu PC as usual, I entered fastboot mode from the tablet, which is recognized by the PC, and I tried to run the following commands:

./fastboot erase system
./fastboot delete-logical-partition product
./fastboot flash system ShapeShiftOS.img

always getting this error (or similar):

Erasing 'system' FAILED (remote: 'unknown reason')
fastboot: error: Command failed

FAILED (remote: unknown reason)
fastboot: error: Command failed

If I try to run other commands always related to fastboot such as:

./fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability
./fastboot flashing unlock

I get the following error instead:

FAILED (remote: 'Not implemet.')
fastboot: error: Command failed

It seems like I am not allowed to edit / write to partitions.
I performed the procedure again several times, even resetting the bootloader again by blocking it, flashing the official firmware again and repeating the same procedure ... but same result.

I apologize for my english ... hope someone can help me solve.

(03-03-2021, 01:01 PM)fra2110 ...

for android 10, you need to reboot to fastbootd before attempting to make changes to super partition
see https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-378...#pid207594
for commands that end with not implent, those are not supported by your device model and moreover you've already unlocked bootloader
