2. how did the Null IMEI issue start
3. what deoes it say under settings > about > baseband ?

Please am having the same issue,how can i fix invalid IMEI of infinix hot note pro? i flashed with lollipop 0730 version for 32+2gig using sp flash tool successfully, then  i saw the update info through OTA,which i downloaded, i tried installing it, but i got an error message "unfortunately, system update has failed". i later inserted my sim cards and saw the notification of "invalid imei' for both SIM 1 & 2. please help me out with solutions to solve this.
