Good morning. I did a firmware upgrade and the phone booted up and I can even hear the low battery sound but the screen is still black. I think the screen is faulty, which is a hardware issue

quite possible.
switch off the phone and connect it to a power source. check if it shows the charging icon

So, I have to take it to a repair centre? Couldn't it be something like black screen of death?

very unlikely.

if its due to a software or lagging issue, the phone should at least show a charging sign when switched off.
it should be able to boot into recovery mode. the screen should at least display in both scenarios unless the display is faulty
