[Please help] W4 Rooting Problems, cannot flash TWRP
(28-12-2016, 04:01 PM)wabtechnerd I tried rooting my new Tecno W4 using the method here: https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-15263.html
however, during the SP Flash Tool flashing portion I did NOT follow step 6 here: https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-159.html where it requires that you format your phone. Upon trying to download the TWRP recovery image, SP Tool gives the following error, "PMT changed for the ROM; it must be downloaded". Looking at youtube videos it seems that everyone solves this error by formatting, however, I do not want to replace the factory ROM with a version downloaded online as all of the online versions are older (My build number is W4-AW875A1-M-161010V10).
So I used the Miracle Box instructions here: https://www.hovatek.com/forum/thread-13347.html
to make a backup of everything on the phone "I checked all of the items that could be checked", the backup was successful.
Now, when I try to load the scatter file from Miracle Box into SP Flash Tool, it immediately closes SP Flash Tool and when I try to reopen it opens for less than a second and immediately shuts down so I can basically no longer open it.
My thinking now was going to be to change the recovery.img from the TWRP download and change it to recovery.bin, replace it into the folder with the stock backup, load the scatter file into SP Flash Tool and format and flash, but I am unsure why SP Flash Tool can no longer open or if my scatter file is bad. There were no errors during the Miracle Box backup and opening the scatter .txt file in notepad looks good. In comparing it with the scatter file that came with TWRP, the TWRP looks messy because there are no line breaks, whereas the one created by Miracle box only has a line width of 108 characters and the other one has many more characters in each line with only 9 rows total. I've attached the two scatter files if that might help.
Any help on how to proceed would be appreciated! Thanks.

I did everything using the preloader.bin and scatter file that I created from the previous backup using Miracle Box as well as copying and changing the file name of the TWRP recovery.img to recovery.bin. Miracle Box says it succeeds in writing and I was able to check both the preloader box and recovery box just before it flashed.
However, after all of this, I boot into recovery and it is still the Android recovery...doesn't look like anything on the phone has changed. I can still boot fine into normal android, etc. I did it twice just to make sure, still nothing. I've attached the screenshot of Miracle Box after it finished.
(30-12-2016, 09:39 AM)wabtechnerd I tried uploading the recovery.bin, but the forum presented an error and said it cannot accept those file types. I changed it back to recovery.img, then it said the file was too big and the max file size is limited to about 4MB, whereas the recovery is about 11MB. Its the same one that I downloaded from your site here: https://www.hovatek.com/redirect.php?lin...t=download
I've attached the scatter file from my phone.

the scatter file I've already uploaded multiple times and ends in FACTORY.
Thanks again!
